Ok. Without any excuses, besides the fact that I convinced myself I didn’t have time to write, here are some updates on the vineyards…
The vines are growing at the speed of light. So far we had an excellent growing season. The Chardonnay, Chenin blanc, Merlot, Pinotage and some Cabernet Sauvignon are in full bloom. Warm days will benefit flowering. The forecast shows no rain for at least two weeks, putting a smile on my face and all the farmers!
Chardonnay grapes are looking especially good this year, but I’ll back my comment once the bunches had set.
No pests or diseases are present yet, but although you can’t always see them/it, its always a threat.
I’m especially pleased with the attitude, dedication and eagerness that most of our farmers are managing their vineyards this season, seeing that it’s not the easiest time to be a wine farmer. Their hard work will show in the wines.
