Last year I took to the skies for a bird’s eye view of the vineyards to see the “bigger picture”. It completely changed the way I see and think about my blocks. Management wise it is a must to see your vineyards at least once in the season from the sky. This is the post from last year – A bird’s eye view . It’s a pity I can’t do this every month.
Well, today I didn’t get into the plane, but sort of behind the controls. The objective was to identify the saline spots in the vineyards so that I can start planning for the next season. The data from last year will be matched with this years data and added to a GIS database that contains the data we collected with a soil survey from last year. This will enable us to treat spots more accurately instead of just doing a broadcast of chemicals which is expensive and can be more damaging to the soil.
