The 2014 harvest is almost finished. Only a thousand tonnes remain. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a difficult harvest. The 2014 harvest saw a very late white wine harvest, the latest in several years. This could be due to the weather, but mostly due to the 19% increase in yield from last year. Nonetheless, the quality seems pretty good, especially on Sauvignon blanc.
The red harvest is up by 11%. Very good Pinotage wines are in the tanks and some excellent Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The last of the Cabernet’s are struggling to accumulate sugar due the season that is starting to change. The nights are cold and the days are cooler. We had some rain this week and more are expected for next week. Very good news for all the dryland vines.
So with the harvest almost done, it is time for a quick holiday in April and then it is time to prune all the vineyards.
