The 2017 harvest is on! We started with Chenin blanc destined for MCC – Méthode Cap Classique. The berries are small this year due to the dry season, but they look healthy nonetheless. Overall the Chenin blanc harvest does not look very big but you taste very nice fruit components. Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz seems to have a good season ahead. Cabernet Sauvignon blocks that we aggressively removed leaves in the bunch zone hardly has any green flavours and the berry expressions are beautiful. The same can be said of Merlot.
Sauvignon blancs that suffered a bit under the dry conditions have small bunches and berries and shows a big tropical component. Sauvignon blancs from Philadelphia and Elgin show green fig and bell pepper flavours, typical of the terroir there and I’m sure the wines are gonna be stunners!
