So yesterday most of the wineries harvesting MCC grapes started – really early compared to the average. Most of the red grapes are almost 100% black, and the usually early Chardonnay and Chenin blanc (20 – 28 January) are almost ready to harvest next week. I went through a couple of vineyards on Monday and Tuesday and was pleased to see the excellent condition of the grapes. The grapes are healthy, and in some places plenty.
Having had a very dry summer, I can see that the dryland vineyards (unirrigated) are now starting to stress a bit. The rest of the vineyards are looking very good for the 2015 harvest and I can’t wait to start! Now just to get rid of this summer flu…
